Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 victory over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

First-half goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland ensured that Pep Guardiola's side took all three points against a spirited Brighton side.

Alvarez opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing off a flowing move involving Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden. Haaland doubled City's lead in the 19th minute with a powerful strike from outside the box.

Brighton pulled a goal back in the second half through Ansu Fati, but City held on to secure a vital victory.

The win was City's 21st consecutive home win in the Premier League, a new record for the competition. It also took City back to the top of the table, one point ahead of Arsenal.
